Description
This is the profile of a mature male Impala watching the females and young in his territory. Males big and strong enough to hold and defend a territory will run off rival males and try to keep females from leaving their territory. The females generally go for territories with the best grazing land, rather than basing their choice on the resident male. Young males, once they are weaned, are kicked out of the mature male’s territory and form bachelor herds for protection until they are mature enough to take over a territory of their own.
